Preventive Dentistry- Our Goal to see you less!
Oral health is a combination of many factors, for example- diet, dental hygiene, genetics etc. Well, we cannot change your genetic makeup but we can educate and give you some tips and tools to steer you towards good oral hygiene that will prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Preventive care should be practiced on a daily basis because just like any good habit in life (good diet, exercise)- you have be consistent which can give you a healthy future.
At our appointments in Summit Dental Clinic, we promise to do our part to keep your mouth and teeth in top form. However visiting us twice a year (if at all !) is not enough. So here are a few things you can do at home to maintain a good healthy mouth.
Invest in a good toothbrush preferably electric- Sonic brushes have been proven to remove more plaque than a manual brush when used correctly. These brushes are so easy to use and offer impressive results that benefits your long term dental health.
Use the right toothpaste- We wrote a whole post about this! Read here- https://www.summitdentalclinic.org/blog/choosing-therighttoothpaste
Rinse daily- We are not advocates of mouthwashes that contain alcohol which dry your mouth out and kill even the good bacteria in your mouth increasing the chances of dental decay. We however advise that you rinse your mouth with water after every meal to prevent food from sticking to your teeth for a long time. Visit our clinic to know which mouth rinse is good for you.
Guard your teeth- If you grind / clench your teeth at night, then it is important to wear a properly fitted night guard. Read more about it here- https://www.summitdentalclinic.org/blog/nightguard
Everyones mouth is different so it is important to be consistent with your dental appointments and talk to us about the right tools and brands that best fit your needs. Proper hygiene at home will keep your mouth free of disease, your gums healthy, teeth strong and your smile big!
