Congrats you Graduated! Now what? - PART II

Continuing with our last blog post about what you can do after your undergraduation. We wrote about how you can proceed if you are interested in clinical dentistry- try and get as much experience as possible. Work and learn from any and every place that hires you- now is not the time to be selective. This helps you figure out what you’re interested in and the type of clinic you want to work at in the future. It also helps you immensely if you want to set up your own dental practice.

If you have already decided what specialisation you are interested in- that’s great! Focus on your entrance exam, research about the colleges which are good for that field and work towards achieving that goal. If you are still undecided about your MDS degree- talk to people and shadow senior specialists if possible. At least you will have an idea about whether you want to pursue a clinical or non-clinical stream.

If you are one of the dentists who are not interested in pursuing dentistry but you obviously do not want to waste the degree you have worked so hard for- don’t worry! You can work in the business side of dentistry too. Speak to hospitals and clinics who may be looking for someone with knowledge about dental work and who can handle and communicate with labs, patients, vendors etc. It is a very good option and definitely we have a dearth of people for such positions. If this is something you are interested in and want to pursue further- a degree/ diploma in Hospital Administration is what you can look into.

Now you know you want to continue dentistry but not in Bangalore. Start your research TODAY! Studying aboard requires a lot of careful planning and lots of research- focus on your stream, university and exams you need to take. Other than just contacting the universities directly (they are highly responsive) also connect with alumni and get their take. There is so much information online that you don’t have any excuses- please start this process quickly and be patient since legal procedures, visa etc takes time.

Did you think this blog post helped you in any way? We have tried to give you options but feel free to write to us at summitdentalclinic@gmail.com  if you have any other questions or you want more information !
