What to expect during a Dental Check-up?

It can be quite daunting to enter a dental office- even it is for a routine check up. Trust us when we say that no one is ever happy to see us (sad but true) and it is a lot harder when you do not know what to expect. We thought we could take you through what you should expect during your first dental visit at Summit Dental Clinic.

The first and one of the most important protocol we follow is having you fill a detailed history sheet in which you tell us about any conditions if any as well as medication you are taking for them. You will have to fill in your dental history and  details of allergies or specific concerns. This will help us in  diagnosis, treatment planning and is critical to any procedures we perform. Having all your details before you even sit on a dental chair saves a lot of time and relives you of any stress in case you think you are missing out on mentioning important data to your doctor.

Following this routine registration you will be escorted to the clinical area where you will meet one of our specialists- Dr. Shivani or Dr. Vishwas. Before they begin any sort of dental screening- they will take time and talk to you about your concerns. At this time you should give them detailed history including medical which will help them prepare for your treatment. Apart from addressing your specific concern, they will look for possible cavities, gum levels, integrity of previous dental, oral cancer screening etc. They will take X-rays if needed which will help in diagnosis, treatment planning as well as a record.

If you are not regular with your dental cleaning (and most people aren’t) you will be advised a basic oral prophylaxis to begin. In the event that you have come in pain - our doctors will address that issue first before cleaning. You will be given all the information you need before starting any procedure and detailed instructions post the procedure as well. Please do not hesitate to ask our doctors all the questions you might have- after all it is your health (also time, money and effort of everyone involved!).

If you happen to pass your dental check up with flying colours- then we will see you back in 6 months!
